BIO

Have you ever found yourself attempting to describe to various audiences the myriad of challenges faced by minorities, especially African American males who navigate through the treacherous valleys and plateaus of corporate America---finding the topic too complex to capture and easily misunderstood?
James C. Mays has simplistically and eloquently illustrated the perils, setbacks and triumphs of his narrative as a “modern” black man, -- that actually has a better ending than one would expect. His memoir is for any minority person living in America, starting a college education, an entry level position in corporate America, a career in the military or striving to become an entrepreneur. It is also timely for those in white America who are fortunate enough to read it; to take heed and get out of the way of their minority counterparts who will be changed and awakened by the lessons it teaches.
As a current educator and former instructor in corporate America for 20 years, I am confident that those who read this text will find it realistic, revealing and relatable. Mays takes his readers on a psychological and historical journey with him beginning with his relationship with his father. His journey begins here with a reminder to the reader of the sacrifice an entire generation made to combat racism in their own way. We are plunged into the 70’s and 80’s as May describes his life changing career choices in the Midwest with his wife, to eventually find prosperity to the present, as they return back to Atlanta.
Mays has a background of leadership and education that is unmatched in these modern times. His examples of tenacity, generosity, integrity and wisdom are invaluable to this next generation and deserve to be shared for years to come.
